On Monday 31st October, Swindon College’s Level 2 Apprenticeship Hairdressing students took part in a competition to create hairstyles with a ‘Fairytale’ theme. They had an hour and a half to produce their interpretation of the theme on their models, complete with makeup and clothing to suit.
Maria Sly, a Lecturer in the College’s Hairdressing Department, said:
“These apprenticeship students are in their second year - they all work in salons and come into College once a week. This competition is a great way to see what they’ve achieved so far and the different creative abilities within the class.”
The competition was judged by one of the employers and also some staff from the College. Sam Cini, a Training Co-Ordinator for Apprentices, said:
“There is such a high standard, it’s been really difficult to choose a winner! I’m very impressed with everything I’ve seen and all the students deserve credit for taking part.”
The decision was finally made: In third place was Abbie Legg, second place was awarded to Carmen Olphert, and the overall winner was Simone Graham, with her model Yasmin Cinquegrani.
Simone, who works at Rage Hair Salon on Manchester Road in Swindon, said:
“I’m so happy and shocked to have won – there were some really good hairstyles from the others. I used a fairytale pixie as my inspiration to create my style and am really happy with how it looks.”
