On 14th October 2011, a total of 123 Swindon College students came together to celebrate their graduation day. The students donned their gowns at Jury’s Inn and paraded to Holy Rood Church on Groundwell Road where they were presented with their certificates, followed by a reception at the College afterwards.
Students graduated in MA Archaeological Illustration, BA (Hons) Fine Art, BA (Hons) Sequential Illustration and BA (Hons) Graphic Design, as well as Foundation Degree Early Years, Foundation Degree Business, Management and Communication.
They also graduated in HND and HNC Civil Engineering, HND and HNC Construction, HND Computing, HND and HNC Photography, CIPD Postgraduate Diploma and AAT NVQ 4 Accounting.
Natalie D’Rozario, 30, a Performance and Reporting Analyst for Network Rail, of Haydon Wick, graduated in HNC Construction despite having a baby during the course.
“Last year was tricky because I had my daughter, Jessica, in February 2010. It was hard work but I got there in the end. I had a lot of support from my family, colleagues and tutors, which made it a lot easier,” said Natalie, who is now going on to study HND Construction at Swindon College.
Also among the graduates were AAT NVQ 4 Accounting students Martina Hardy, Liz Goodwin and Sunita Smart. Sunita said:
“It feels great to be graduating, it is such a highlight after all the hard work throughout the course. It is great to be here with your friends and to be able to celebrate your achievement, we're very proud.”
Swindon College principal Andrew Miller said the students had done better than ever and congratulated them on their achievements. He said:
“It’s fantastic to be able to celebrate with our graduates on such a lovely day. Our success rates have gone up again since last year.”
“We have got more graduates getting better grades than we have had before and I think that is a testament to the hard work of the staff at the College.
“It is also down to the great working relationship that we have with Bath University and Oxford Brookes University.”
