College Celebrates its Local Community Projects

Swindon College Local Community Projects Awards Evening

Swindon College held a Community Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 4th July to recognise the efforts of our many students who have completed voluntary work this year to help various projects within the local community.

Students from the Construction, Plumbing, Electrical, Painting & Decorating, Motor Vehicle, Engineering, Early Years and Vocational Studies departments and their staff have achieved amazing results working with projects including Top Drawer Furniture, BBC Wiltshire's Make a Wish appeal, All Saints' Church, The Prospect Hospice, St. Andrew's Church, Swindon Food Bank, Stratton Kitchen and the ABC Trust. Staff representing the organisations also attended the ceremony to show their appreciation for the hard work and commitment of the students involved.

The college received excellent feedback from the project representatives highlighting the professionalism and high standards of the work carried out. The ceremony was a great success and ended on a high with a presentation to the Prospect Hospice of hand-crafted barbeque tools and equipment to accompany the installation of a built-in barbeque area in their grounds.

Kate Coughlan, Director of Curriculum and organiser of the event said: "The community celebration enabled the voluntary sector to say thank you for the time, effort and skills that our students gave to help improve the lives of individuals and organisations within the community."

If you have any ideas or suggestions for new projects which our students could undertake to benefit the community in the next 12 months, please contact Kate via email: KateCoughlan@swindon-college.ac.uk.
