Businesses are urged to take on Apprentices
Apprentices can bring significant benefits to employers and Swindon College has launched a new campaign to encourage employers to make a sound business investment by hiring an apprentice and reaping the rewards.
Marie Sneddon, Manager of the Apprenticeship programmes at Swindon College said: "Many businesses are still feeling the impact of the economic downturn and may be tempted to cut their training budgets. but we want to get the message across that apprentices do pay their way and employers will see a visible return on their investment in a relatively short period of time.
"The college works alongside employers to ensure that they are well informed about what an apprenticeship is and how it is delivered; an apprentice is an employee who earns a wage while working alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skillsand being assessed in the workplace.
"Off the job, usually on a day-release basis, apprentices receive training at Swindon College to work towards nationally recognised qualifications such as National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), Technical Certificates and Key Skills. Therefore, apprentices are proving to be a great investment for the future, as on-the-job training can help employers ensure their workforce remains competitive. "
